Marconi, Justice Square

In the middle of 18th June, after adopting all the Covid protocols defined by the State and Region, all project partners have organize a meeting in the pulsing heart of it, so a really cool discussion kermesse has started and people living the square have taken a part with great interest. Meeting report

Thursday 18h June: The project partners' meeting was held in Piazza Marconi. A moment to team up among those who are organically part of the path since its candidacy for the regional tender and those, institutional and non-institutional, involved after the admission of "Marconi, Piazza Giustizia" and who enthusiastically embraced the project. The Municipality of Taranto was present with the Councilor for Urban Planning and the representative of the Urban Center, the Superintendency represented by Dr. Masiello and the Department of Political Sciences of the University of Bari through Dr. Cacciapaglia who will support the path on a scientific level. Cooperation with political decision-makers and with the local scientific institutions gives further depth to the project and creates the best conditions to fully grasp this opportunity for change which Justice for Taranto becomes an open and traversable instrument. Leading the project were the experts of participatory processes of ComunitAzione, among the best professionals in the field.

It will be six months in which the premises will be built for a refunctionalization of Piazza Marconi starting from the needs and requirements of the inhabitants. A new way of doing politics by letting the works come only after the comparison, sharing and adoption of those who will have to live them.

It will be a community building in which the chances of success will be higher, the greater the contributions that will increase it. For this reason, the initial part of the project will focus on neighborhood relations and on creating the community called to express itself. "Bringing the place back into relationship with people", as the President of the Order of Architects of the province of Taranto Prontera and that of Abfo Occhinegro have pointed out. In the comparison, the cultural heritage cooperative Ethra intervened, which highlighted the aspects linked to the still hidden past of Piazza Marconi, the Equociqui cooperative that will lend its solid expertise in the field of fair and equitable consumption and Retake, which has been committed for some time. raising awareness on the issue of waste and the cleaning of common places in the city. Among the partners also the Ohana association that will take care of the aspects related to cultural mediation in reference to the presence in the neighborhood of communities of other cultures.

A public assembly, that of yesterday, in which there were many and many inhabitants of the neighborhood, although the current anti-covid rules did not allow the full involvement of the square as a use of Justice for Taranto.

The project does not have the presumption of considering itself the zero year of the actions in this square and in this neighborhood, but it will build on previous experiences and place itself alongside the realities that have worked on it before. The collaborations born also during this meeting derive from this pivotal point. Over all those with the church of Sant'Antonio, yesterday represented by his parish priest Don Carmine, for years a constant defense against social exclusion.
